Successes

The ORID training has been a success for me since our three day in person PD. I have successfully implemented ORID conversations both with staff for facilitating a PD (Safe and Appropriate Boundaries with students) and even a one on one check in with a staff member (attendance and punctuality).

Challenges

A challenge for me has been using my strengths as an asset to my team.
1.) Connectedness
2.) Relator
3.) Communication
4.) Activator
5.) Self- Assurance
Especially with Relator and self-assurance, I can be very selective with whom I choose to know the vulnerable parts of me. I feel as though I tend to have this irrational fear that if I begin to be vulnerable, show emotions, or lead with empathy, that people will not take me as seriously or see me as a leader and will begin taking advantage. Therefore, I have a hard time connecting with some staff on an emotional level and tend to come across as all business. The great thing about this is that I run a tight ship that always meets deliverables and is of high quality standards but I think the relationship building is also a crucial aspect that I am missing out on.

Session Focus

I would like to focus on specific things I can implement within myself or team to get over this fear of people not taking me seriously if I start to show emotion and empathy. I want to start building deeper bonds and relationships with my team and not be so closed off. My sr.TL has been with me for four years and just last year is when I finally began opening up with her and now have a great fun relationship with her. I would like for it to be that way with my whole team.
